Women Artisans Skill Enhancement Project
The Women Artisan Skill Enhancement Project (WASEP) works in Mumbai and Thane districts of Maharashtra with the aim of generating livelihoods for women in the area by reviving a traditional form of art – Warli. This is an area based focussed intervention which intends to enhance the capacities of local women as Warli artisans and link them with the market, with the objective of enhancing their household income. The project is supported by Larsen & Toubro Infotech (LTI).

Objectives
- Generate local livelihood opportunities for the artisans.
- Increase the household income.
- Revive traditional art form – Warli.
Achievements
- On an average, the monthly income increased from INR 1500 – 3000.
- Organized artisans into producer groups.
- Trained 2200 artisans on basic Warli craft and 600 artisans on advance Warli craft.
- Provided market linkage opportunities to the artisans.
- Created social capital through institution building, which resulted in an increase in self-confidence.
